Our experienced audiologists are dedicated to delivering high-quality, respectful care tailored to the unique needs of those who have served.

Who Is Eligible?

You may be eligible for hearing services under the DVA program if you hold one of the following:

  • DVA Gold Card – Full coverage for all clinically necessary services, including hearing.
  • DVA White Card – Coverage for hearing services if your hearing loss is accepted as a service-related condition.
  • Dependents of eligible veterans may also qualify in some circumstances.

If you’re unsure of your eligibility, we can help you check and guide you through the application process.

What to Expect at a DVA Hearing Assessment

A DVA-funded hearing assessment is designed to identify hearing loss and determine the best way to support your hearing health. Here’s what’s involved:

  1. Initial Discussion and Case History

We begin by discussing your hearing concerns, presence or absence of ringing in the ears (tinnitus), medical history, lifestyle, and any difficulties you’re experiencing in daily communication. This helps us understand how hearing loss and tinnitus may be impacting your life.

  1. Otoscopy (Ear Examination)

Using a specialised instrument called an otoscope, we examine your ear canals and eardrums to check for wax blockages, infections, or any abnormalities.

  2. Hearing Tests
You will undergo a series of easy, non-invasive tests in a soundproof room or booth, including:
  • Pure-Tone Audiometry – Determines your hearing thresholds across various pitches and volumes.
  • Speech Testing – Assesses how well you understand speech at different volumes.
  • Tympanometry – Measures how your eardrum responds to pressure changes to check for middle ear issues.
These tests provide a complete picture of your hearing ability and ear health.
  1. Results and Explanation

We will explain your results in clear, easy-to-understand terms and answer any questions you may have. If hearing loss is present, we’ll discuss appropriate solutions, which may include hearing aids or assistive listening devices.

What Happens After the Assessment?

If hearing aids are recommended and you are eligible under the DVA program, we will:

  • Help you select a suitable, fully subsidised device from the government-approved range.
  • Provide custom fitting, adjustments, and training on how to use and care for your hearing aids.
  • Offer ongoing support, including regular reviews, maintenance, and repairs – all covered by the program.
